Does Domino’s understand Web marketing?

I am always on the look out for great ways to leverage the Internet for marketing ideas and strategies.

As a Calgary social media consultant this is simply part of my job.  Who is doing what and how effective is it.  I am always on the look out for ways our team at Ulistic can serve our clients better, faster and with more bang.  Plus this practice allows me the opportunity to get some great ideas to share with you through this blog.

I was watching some TV last night and a commercial from the CEO of Domino’s Pizza came on.  Since I was not watching something I recorded on my ShawTV PVR system, I sat through commercial after commercial, normally this is a painful process…but not on this night.

The Domino’s commercial got my attention.  Why?  Simple…it was engaging and it was inviting.  Domino’s CEO was pitching their pizza photo contest that is running online at showusyourpizza.com but that wasn’t the core message.  The main message was in humble apology on how Domino’s screwed up.  One person submitted a picture of their pizza stuck to the top of the box,  don’t you hate when that happens?

The Domino’s brass took full responsibility publicly and I am sure sold more pizzas last night because of that ad.

This is not the first time I have blogged about Domino’s and how they use Social Media and other online services to connect with their audience.  What Domino’s totally gets and does very effectively is the engagement part of online marketing.  They invite others to take part in what they are doing.  They encourage the community to get involved.  Plus, they are not afraid to say they messed up.

Their most recent Pizza Photo contest at http://www.showusyourpizza.com is just another bang on example on the effective use on online media and the constant evolution that Domino’s Pizza strives to meet with their overall marketing strategies.

We can all learn a valuable lesson from Domino’s.  Be Inviting!
